DB3 DO-35 Diac Trigger Diodes - 32V Breakover Voltage | China Suppliers & Factory
Function
Bidirectional Triggering
Conducts in both positive and negative half-cycles without polarity distinction, suitable for AC control circuits.
Precise Voltage Threshold Switching
Uses 32V as the reference to stably trigger power devices (e.g., TRIAC/SCR), enabling on/off control and power regulation of AC loads.
Low Loss & Fast Response
Low leakage current and short rise time, ideal for high-frequency and high-reliability applications.
Overvoltage Protection
Conducts during overvoltage to discharge energy and protect downstream sensitive components.

Installation Method
● Process Parameters: Solder temperature 250~270℃, wave height adapted to PCB thickness. After inserting the DB3 pins into the PCB pads, the molten solder of the wave soldering completes the soldering.
● Compatibility: The DB3 is an axial through-hole package, and the pin spacing and hole diameter match the standard PCB pads, so it can directly participate in wave soldering with high production efficiency.
● Notes: Ensure the pins are inserted into the pads to a sufficient depth (at least 2/3 of the pin length) to avoid floating and poor soldering; control the conveyor belt speed to prevent component displacement.
Application
Functioning as a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference, the DB3 can be used in conjunction with triacs for simplified gate control circuits or as a starting element in fluorescent lamp ballasts.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What are the core parameters of DB3?
A1: DB3 is a bidirectional trigger diode (DIAC) with a standard DO-35 package. It has a typical breakover voltage of 32V (range: 28-36V), symmetrical forward and reverse conduction characteristics, a working temperature range of -40℃~125℃, and extremely low leakage current. It is suitable for AC circuit triggering and protection.
Q2: What is the difference between DB3 and ordinary zener diodes?
A2: Zener diodes are mainly used for DC voltage regulation, unidirectional operation and weak transient surge tolerance. DB3 is a bidirectional symmetrical trigger device, specially used for triggering TRIAC/SCR, timing circuits in AC circuits, with faster response speed and more suitable for AC control scenarios.
Q3: Can DB3 be used in wave soldering/reflow soldering?
A3: Conventional DB3 is an axial through-hole package, suitable for wave soldering, which is the first choice for mass production. Reflow soldering is only applicable to customized SMD packaged DB3, and the conventional version is not applicable. The temperature curve of the component must be strictly matched.
Q4: In which scenarios is DB3 mainly used?
A4: It is widely used in TRIAC trigger circuits such as dimmers, fan speed controllers, electric blanket thermostats and motor drives; it is also used in oscillator, timer, fluorescent lamp/LED ballast starting circuits, and AC overvoltage protection circuits.
Q5: How to select a suitable DB3 model according to the circuit?
A5: The core is to match the breakover voltage, which should be slightly higher than the voltage threshold required for triggering in the circuit (e.g., 32V is suitable for most AC trigger scenarios). At the same time, consider the package form (universal DO-35) and working temperature range to ensure adaptability to the working environment of the circuit.
Q6: Will DB3 be damaged during use? When will it fail?
A6: It has a long service life under normal use. It will be damaged if the soldering temperature is too high, overvoltage/overcurrent exceeds the tolerance range, or the glass package is broken due to physical impact; long-term high-temperature working may also accelerate performance degradation.
